Entrepreneur-In-Residence Joins Oregon BEST

OTBC Exec Joins Oregon BEST to Speed Cleantech Entrepreneurship in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. – The executive director of the Oregon Technology Business Center (OTBC), a Portland incubator for startup companies, has joined Oregon BEST in a part-time role as its newest entrepreneur-in-residence.

Oregon BEST's Commercialization Program includes seasoned entrepreneurial executives who help small businesses and university researchers navigate the challenging path from lab prototype to commercialized product.

Steve Morris will retain his current part-time position as executive director of OTBC while working for Oregon BEST as an executive coach for a growing number of Oregon BEST Companies – startups working to commercialize new products and technologies with assistance from the Oregon BEST.

"Oregon BEST and OTBC are teaming up to better support cleantech entrepreneurship in Oregon," said David Kenney, President and Executive Director of Oregon BEST. "Steve brings years of experience and knowledge that makes him an ideal fit as our newest entrepreneur-in-residence. His work helping Oregon BEST Companies dovetails well with his OTBC work, so it's a real win-win for cleantech entrepreneurship all across Oregon."

Morris is a veteran of three investor-funded startups and two business-unit startups within larger companies. He has more than 25 years of management experience in the software, service and semiconductor test industries at companies that include Hewlett Packard, Integrated Measurement Systems, Cadence Design Systems, Mentor Graphics, Credence Corporation and Teseda Corporation.

"I'm pleased to be joining the Oregon BEST team to help build Oregon's economy by ensuring new companies thrive here," Morris said. "This unique position enables me to build synergy between OTBC, Oregon BEST and cleantech companies all over our state."

Oregon BEST's entrepreneurs-in-residence are supported in part through a U.S. Small Business Administration grant. They expand Oregon BEST's range of support available to cleantech innovators by providing consulting in business strategy, business development, and raising capital to startup teams affiliated with Oregon BEST.

With hands-on startup CEO/founder experience, Morris has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs start and grow companies, and he has a large inventory of startup workshops and practical startup tools. He holds a bachelor's in mathematics from Reed College and a master's degree from Carnegie-Mellon University Graduate School of Industrial Administration (now The Tepper School of Business).
