Entrepreneurs, researchers, and students with a novel technology are encouraged to apply by January 2nd, 2018.
This year’s conference will focus on the latest understanding of impacts of climate change to water resources in Washington State and potential strategies for adapting to these changes.
The warm winter of 2015, perhaps a typical year in future decades, provides an interesting backdrop for discussing climate change impacts. An evening reception will follow the conference with an opportunity to meet and mingle among water resource professionals.
The American Water Resources Association, Washington Section is a nonprofit organization for people involved in water resources in Washington State. Their goals are to provide forums for advancing water resources management in Washington and the Pacific Northwest region; serve the public interest by supporting education and informational exchanges; involve professionals and students from all disciplines and interested members of the public in activities that promote broad discussion and understanding of water resources issues; and recognize excellence in water resource education, management, and research.

An interactive day-and-a-half training on use of the Quick Chemical Assessment Tool (QCAT).
QCAT lets small and medium-sized businesses evaluate, compare, and select safer alternatives to chemicals of concern. After taking this workshop, participants will feel comfortable assessing a chemical using QCAT and comparing the safety of possible alternatives. Presented by Northwest Green Chemistry and the Department of Ecology.
Expert speakers from Ecology and U.S. EPA will explain what chemical hazard assessments are, why they are so important, and provide hands-on activities that let you practice using QCAT. Register early to suggest a chemical of interest that may be incorporated into the workshop!

Technology-to-Market Scholars Program (Summer 2015)
ARPA-E recruits Technology-to-Market Scholars who have a unique combination of technical and business skills to assist in the commercialization of high-impact technology development programs. This internship opportunity offers exposure to promoting the transition of cutting-edge energy technologies to market in a fast-paced environment. Scholars assist with Technology-to-Market program efforts in one or more topical areas. Each selected Scholar will be paid a weekly stipend and travel costs; length of stay ranges from 8-12 weeks.
Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in a technical field), are in the midst of completing a graduate level degree (preferably MBA or technical degree M.S./Ph.D. with a business focus), and have 3+ years relevant work experience. Applicants should be prepared for deep immersion in a specific energy program area and must be comfortable working independently. Strong written and oral communication abilities, as well as an interest in energy and energy technologies, are required.

In 2017, OEN will be offering entrepreneurs a chance to compete in Early Stage or Concept Stage categories. Applicants to either category may also be considered for loans ranging from $25,000 – $250,000 through Business Oregon’s Small Business Expansion Program. Additionally, women or minority entrepreneurs may be considered for cash awards (not loans, not equity!) of $5,000 to $10,000 at the Concept Stage level or a special equity investment of at least $25,000 at the Early Stage level.
